Wisconsin’s Sixth District Congressman is highlighting two bills passed in the House of Representatives.
Republican Glenn Grothman says The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act aims to ensure that only individuals born biologically female are eligible to compete in women’s sports and protects opportunities for female athletes by banning transgender women from participating in women’s sports at the federal level.
The second bill, The Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, would protect women by ensuring illegal migrants who commit serious crimes, including sexual offenses, do not remain in the U.S.
Grothman says the bill also calls for stronger enforcement of immigration laws that include provisions for increased deportation of illegal migrants convicted of violent offenses.
The congressman has been a vocal critic of border security, saying that the number of people crossing over would permanently change the U.S.
Democrats strongly opposed both bills.
Wisconsin Congressman Mark Pocan said the second bill would put domestic violence victims in the U.S. legally at risk of being deported.
