A teen is in custody after starting a fire over the ban of TikTok.
The Fond du Lac Police Department and Fire Rescue were called to the 500 block of North Peters Avenue yesterday (January 19th) at approximately 1:00 p.m. for a reported structure fire.
Arriving officers were able to keep the fire in check with fire extinguishers prior to the arrival of fire crews.
A short time later, a 19-year-old man from Menasha was located near the strip mall where the fire occurred.
The strip mall is also said to house office space used by U.S. Representative Glenn Grothman.
The 19-year-old admitted to starting the fire in response to the government’s recent ban on TikTok, a popular social media outlet.
The Menasha man was taken into custody and has had charges of Arson referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office.
At the time of the fire, the building was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.
The investigation into the incident remains open and in its preliminary stages by the Fond du Lac Police Department and Fond du Lac Fire Rescue.
