A multi-county effort was needed to apprehend a Fond du Lac car thief.
The Fond du Lac Police Department was called to the 400 block of East Division Street yesterday (January 15th) just after 11:00 a.m. for a report of a stolen work van.
Arriving officers learned the van had been stolen approximately 20 minutes earlier and had been left running and unlocked.
Shortly after, officers reported the vehicle’s license plate was seen on the Flock plate recognition system as it merged on to Highway 41.
The stolen van was next seen, also via the Flock system, in Beaver Dam, and the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Beaver Dam Police Department were notified.
Dodge County Deputies and Beaver Dam PD officers quickly tracked down the stolen vehicle in a Walmart parking lot, and the car thief, a 43-year-old Columbus man, was taken into custody without incident.
The stolen vehicle case remains under investigation, at this time.
