Wisconsin’s Senate Majority Leader calls a Senate resolution on voting commonsense.
During one of the first days of the new Wisconsin Legislature, the Senate voted on party lines to pass SJR 2, a proposal that would enshrine Voter ID into the Wisconsin Constitution.
9th District State Senator Devin LeMahieu said having voters show a photo ID ensures every vote counts.
He also said, “Enshrining Voter ID requirements in the constitution will secure Wisconsin elections and make sure that it is easy to vote and hard to cheat.”
According to LeMahieu, Wisconsin saw a record turnout since its statutory Voter ID requirement was implemented.
In the 2024 election, Wisconsin saw its highest statewide raw vote total ever, nearly its highest statewide percentage turnout ever, with Milwaukee having the highest turnout of any of the largest 50 US cities.
Democrats have come out against resolutions like this before, saying that they will limit the vote of minorities.
