A proposal on the study of Sandhill Cranes submitted by Manitowoc’s representative in the Assembly has passed a committee vote.
Representative Paul Tittl’s proposal includes assisting agricultural producers by subsidizing seed treatment of corn crops in order to prevent damage caused by sandhill cranes, authorizing the hunting of sandhill cranes, and increasing hunting surcharges that support payments to agricultural producers for crop damage caused by wild animals.
The Legislative Council Study Committee on Sandhill Cranes approved the proposal, which Rep. Tittl says will provide “relief and mitigation opportunities for Wisconsin farmers dealing with crop damage.”
In addition to the proposal, the committee approved two documents relating to committee findings and conclusions.
The findings were amended by the committee during the November 13th meeting.
The committee has concluded its work, and the approved proposal will now be referred to the Joint Legislative Council Committee for introduction.
