A convicted sex offender is being released from prison and residing in Oshkosh.
According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page, Scott Carpenter will reside in the 800 block of West County Y in Oshkosh starting December 5th.
Deputies say a court granted Carpenter supervised release, and they will be on supervision under the Department of Health Services with help from the Department of Corrections.
Carpenter was convicted of 1st-degree sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in 1995.
Winnebago County Deputies continue to say that police do not want him at this time and that the notification isn’t to increase fear but rather to inform the public as a way to be safer.
Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass a registered sex offender will not be tolerated.
Carpenters must also follow special requirements like wearing a GPS monitoring device and will remain on the state sex offender registry for life.
