
Manitowoc County Unified Veterans Council has named its 2024 Manitowoc County Veteran of the Year.
Earning the honor this year was retired Army Command Sergeant Major Nancy Schnell Rivera.
She served in the Army for 30 years and did a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Nancy is an active volunteer with Old Glory Honor Flight, helping raise money to send 60 local veterans on trips to Washington D.C.
Nancy is best known as a member of American Legion Post 477 – St Nazianz and is referred to as “The Legion Lady.”
Her contributions include participating in the Post’s Memorial Day and Veterans Day activities, conducting Military Honors at the funerals of local Veterans, and marching in local parades and school sporting events.
She was also the a co-coordinator of the NE Wisconsin I Am Not Invisible photo project which highlighted local women Veterans, and participated in the HOOAH WI Veteran Suicide Awareness Ruck March in November.
Nancy received the award at the Manitowoc County Veterans Day Banquet.
