The grades are in for the Manitowoc Public School District.
Despite improvements in several categories, the Manitowoc Public School District received a two-star rating in the latest Department of Public Instruction State Exam.
The DPI publishes school and district report cards annually while focusing on the priority areas of achievement, growth, target group outcomes, and on-track to graduation.
Students in the Manitowoc Public School District scored 8.1 percentage points better in the English Language Arts section of the exam and 9.4 percentage points better in math, slightly lower than the 12 percentage points the state achieved.
To avoid across-the-board inflation in report card rankings, DPI re-adjusted its scale for all districts’ achievement scores, leading to the MPSD remaining in the 2-star “meets few expectations” rating for the second year in a row.
Prior to dipping to the 2-star rating for the 2022-2023 school year, the MPSD was in the 3-star “meeting expectations” category.
However, Madison Elementary and Riverview Elementary Schools received 4-star rankings by “exceeding expectations”, while Franklin, Jefferson, Monroe Elementary and Wilson Middle School all received three-star “meets expectations” rankings.
In fact, Monroe rose one level since last year, while McKinley Academy was able to rise a level to “meets few expectations.”
MPSD Interim Superintendent Lee Thennes said of the results, “As a district leadership team, we will analyze these results and develop strategies to continue our forward growth in achievement.”
