For the past couple of weeks, a delegation of five students from Japan have been touring Manitowoc and seeing all that Eastern Wisconsin has to offer.
This visit is a part of the Sister City relationship Manitowoc has with Kamogawa Japan and is the second part of the exchange.
Four Manitowoc area students were in Japan earlier this year, and now they are showing off their hometown.
One visitor, Sakura, tells Seehafer News she enjoyed a trip to Green Bay’s Bay Beach Amusement Park, saying, “That’s so fun.”
However, she was a little scared of the rollercoaster.
One thing that wasn’t scary was a rendition of Jacob and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, which Akina and Sawa both saw with their host families at the Capitol Civic Center.
Both girls were impressed by the Jewel of the Lakeshore.
Akina said the Capitol Civic Center is “so pretty, and also it was so energetic.”
Sawa agreed, calling the theater “beautiful.”
As for Aira, she tells us she enjoyed visiting the Manitowoc Fire Station, specifically when they got the chance to hold the fire hose.
And finally, Nagonu says his favorite part of the trip was an experience that ties Japan and America together, a Wisconsin Timber Rattlers baseball game.
The group was there for a game where fireworks were shot off.
Nagonu said he doesn’t play anymore, but he did play baseball when he was 8 years old.
The group also said they really enjoyed trying the local cuisine, specifically hamburgers and cheese curds.
The sister-city relationship between Manitowoc and Kamogawa started in 1993 when Mayor Kevin Crawford founded the Manitowoc International Relations Association, which still organizes student exchanges.
