The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has temporarily suspended several pro-Palestinian groups following an Instagram post that labeled the Milwaukee Jewish Federation as an “extremist group.”
The university announced the suspension yesterday but did not specify the exact consequences for the groups involved, which are part of the UW-Milwaukee Popular University for Palestine.
Potential penalties include losing access to university buildings and bank accounts. Earlier this month, the group posted that Hillel Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Jewish Federation are “extremist groups” and stated, “We will no longer normalize genocidal extremists walking on our campus.”
The Jewish organizations perceived this as a threat.
This incident follows previous tensions, including a protest in April where demonstrators camped out on campus, ultimately leading to a settlement agreement with the university.
