A man is facing charges after stealing a car and crashing it a few blocks away.
The Manitowoc Police Department dispatched officers to a reported crash in the 1700 block of South 10th Street just before 2:00 Sunday morning (July 7th) to investigate the reported crash, where a vehicle had flipped.
The officers arrived to find two men holding down the driver, who had attempted to flee the scene.
The man was handcuffed and placed in the back of a squad car, which is when the officers noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath.
A witness told police that they had heard the car start and watched it take off, before hearing the crash.
An investigation revealed that the 29-year-old suspect had taken the car in the 1600 block of South 10th Street, struck a tree, and flipped the car.
While at a local hospital, the man also allegedly yelled at police officers and nearly spit at one of them.
He has been charged with Operating a Vehicle Without the Owner’s Consent, Resisting an Officer, Threat to a Law Enforcement Officer, and Disorderly Conduct.
