A scam that was making its way through Sheboygan County has now moved north.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a scammer has been calling residents claiming to be current or retired deputies.
The fraudsters then try to solicit money from you in a variety of ways, including saying there is an arrest warrant for either you or a family member.
The Sheriff’s Office noted, “We never solicit money via phone calls or texts.”
Those who receive these types of calls are encouraged to hang up and call the dispatch center at 920-746-2416 and ask for the deputy who claimed to be talking to you.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office also stated, “These scammers oftentimes try to scare you into thinking you must act quickly. We are not in the business of trying to scare anyone, so please be safe and cautious and contact us with any of your concerns.”
