The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is honoring a captain as they remodel their storage building on Franklin Street.
A 50-foot mural of Captain Edward Carus will be installed as part of the Maritime Heritage Garden Project on the outside of the building.
The mural will depict the life and history of Captain Carus including scenes like “A Forest of Schooners in the Manitowoc River” and “Captain Carus in Air Funnel of Pere Marquette.”
The maritime museum adds that another image, “Ice Skaters on the Manitowoc River” will also celebrate Carus’s life while also capturing the everyday life and culture that flourished along the Manitowoc River’s banks.
Once finished, the museum says this space, where Captain Carus once resided, will soon blossom into a lush green space.
The mural became a reality because of a $10,000 contribution from the City of Manitowoc’s Room Tax funds.
