
Day two of the WIAA State Baseball Tournament is now in the books, and two schools won their first ever tournament game.
Eleva-Strum earned the #1 seed in the Division 4 bracket and picked up a 3-2 over Pacelli in the Cardinal’s first ever state tournament game.
Eleva-Strum was trailing 2-0 right out of the gate but plated a run in the 4th inning to get close.
Carter Gunderson would pelt a double to left field in the 6th to take the lead, and would close out the game on the mound.
On the other side of the bracket, #3 Solon Springs/Northwood also won their first ever tournament game, taking down Johnson Creek 7-0.
Abraham Ahlberg went 3 for 4 for the Eagles and pitched 6 and two thirds innings, striking out 9 batters.
Teammate Jared Schultz added a pair of hits and got the final out on the mound with a strikeout.
On the Division 3 side, Aquinas proved why they are the top seed and the defending champs as they easily got by Cumberland, 10-0.
Beaver’s pitcher Aedan David hurled for all five innings, allowing just one baserunner via walk.
He also pounded out 4 hits and as many RBI in the win.
Lastly, Kenosha St. Joesph snuck out a 2-1 win over Bonduel to secure a spot in the championship game.
The Lancers plated two runs in the first and held off the Bears down the stretch.
On the docket today is the Division 1 and 2 semifinals.
Play will begin on Neuroscience Group Field at 9:00 a.m. with #2 Kettle Moraine Lutheran taking on #3 Edgewood, followed by top seeded Mosinee battling #4 La Crosse Logan.
Division 1 play will begin at 2:30 p.m. with De Pere taking on Westosha Central, followed by Sun Prairie East vs. Oak Creek.
Champions will be crowned in all four divisions Thursday at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.
