Another iteration of the annual Click It or Ticket Campaign was held recently in Manitowoc, and the statistics are in.
In total, 231 traffic stops were conducted by Manitowoc Police, resulting in 69 citations, eight of which were for seat belt violations, and 180 written warnings.
This year’s campaign coincided with the Memorial Day Holiday, aimed at increasing enforcement of seat belt laws while also teaching drivers of the importance of wearing the safety belt.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that nationwide, 91.9% of motorists wear their seatbelts, but the Click It or Ticket campaign is focusing on the 8.1% who do not.
The NHTSA also says that half of the people who died in vehicle accidents in 2021 were unrestrained.
