The ACLU is suing over Milwaukee’s RNC protest rules.
The ACLU filed the suit yesterday, claiming that Milwaukee infringes upon the First Amendment rights of protesters by having a designated protest zone, and an ordinance that bans protests throughout the city.
The lawsuit says that the ordinance “regulates assembly and expression with great force.”
Milwaukee has said for months that it respects the rights of protesters, but the city also says it cannot allow for chaos and possibly violence throughout the entire city.
Milwaukee’s Republican National Convention is now just 38 days away.
