For the third year in a row, the Kiel girls soccer team has been crown regional champions thanks to a 3-1 win over Howards Grove.
Coach Mike Pritchard tells us that his Raiders squad jumped out to an early lead as Maddie McDole set up Addison Vogel for a goal within the first minute.
Vogel would score again in the first half after the Tigers failed to clear the ball, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Tigers came out swinging in the second half, as Pritchard says they played very physical and slowed the game down, but Taavi Saeger pulled out the artillery, netting a long-distance shot with an assist from freshman Ava Furhmann.
Daniel Mueller was stellar between the pipes, making 7 saves, including one that Coach Pritchard called a “direct kick that she ripped out of the air–I honestly thought it was going in!”
She did give up one goal in the final 10 minutes of the match, but Pritchard took responsibility for that, calling it a “coaching decision.”
The Raiders will next host St. Mary Catholic in the Sectional Semi-finals this Thursday.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
