A Sheboygan man is recovering in Milwaukee after he was shot by police.
The Sheboygan Police Department reports that officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Michigan Avenue at around 5:00 Friday evening (May 31st) on a report of a fight at a residence.
They arrived to find a 48-year-old man with a stab wound, who was taken to a local hospital, and a 32-year-old man who was still armed with a knife.
The suspect refused to exit the apartment, and for nearly two hours, police tried to negotiate with him.
The man finally left the residence, still armed with the knife, and he charged at the officers.
When less-than-lethal tactics failed, an officer discharged his handgun, striking and disabling the suspect.
The man was flown via Flight For Life to a Milwaukee area hospital, where he was expected to undergo surgery.
His current status is unknown, but the stabbing victim has been released from the hospital.
As per department policy, the case has been turned over to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office.
