Republicans have shown unanimous support for former President Donald Trump after yesterday’s court conviction, including eastern Wisconsin’s congressman.
Trump was convicted yesterday on 34 counts of falsifying business records involving hush money to an adult film star.
6th District Congressman Glenn Grothman wrote on his X page after the conviction, calling it “a dark day for America, whether Democrat or Republican.”
The Glenbeulah Republican continues by saying, “In America, if we don’t like a political candidate, we beat them at the ballot box, not by convicting them of nonexistent crimes.”
Grothman’s post continues with a claim stating, “These charges would not have come up if Donald Trump wasn’t running for president. This conviction tarnishes America’s reputation in the world and is something that previously would happen in a third-world banana republic.”
Wisconsin’s Democrat representatives in Congress have said just the opposite with Milwaukee Congresswoman Gwen Moore saying on X, “I have trust in the justice system and know that the members of the jury followed the evidence and made their decision accordingly. Justice was served.”
Trump will be back in court on July 11th for sentencing, just three days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
