A Manitowoc Lincoln graduate is ending her track and field career by doing something very special.
Ally Verbauwhede is a fifth-year senior at Edgewood College in Madison, and last Thursday earned fourth place at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 10,000-meter run.
With the placement, she became the first-ever First Team All-American in Edgewood College Track and Field history.
An announcement from the college says the Whitelaw native made up several places in the final laps after running in sixth place for most of the race but finished with a time of 35:42.
In high school. Verbauwhede earned a presidential award as a member of the National Honor Society and lettered in Tennis, Cross Country, and Track and Field.
She also was a First Team All-Conference in both her junior and senior years.
Kylee Doherty of Cross Plains also earned a spot in the First Team All-American status in the discus throw.
