The federal government has suspended the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Head Start program following allegations of abuse and improper supervision.
MPS confirmed it has lost funding for the remainder of the current grant year, which ends this month.
Complaints to federal and state officials led to investigations by Wisconsin’s Department of Children and Families, which observed Head Start workers mishandling children.
Federal investigators also reported instances of bus drivers dropping off children as young as three years old alone or at incorrect locations.
MPS officials state that these issues have been addressed and hope to restore funding next month.
