A man is facing charges after he attempted to break into a vehicle and steal it.
Manitowoc Police Officers were called to the theft in progress just before 8:30 Sunday evening and learned the suspect had fled the scene.
He was quickly located at the corner of South 12th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. Officers ordered him to the ground with tasers drawn, and the man complied.
It was learned that the 18-year-old man moved to Manitowoc from Milwaukee in April, and a search of his phone uncovered messages with contacts in Milwaukee.
The two men told the suspect to steal a Kia vehicle and drive it to Milwaukee and told him the easiest way to do it.
He followed their instructions and was attempting to start the car with a screwdriver when police arrived, causing him to flee.
He was booked into the Manitowoc County Jail on charges of Operating a Vehicle Without the Owner’s Consent, Entry Into a Locked Vehicle, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting an Officer, and Disorderly Conduct.
