The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office is praising one of its deputies and a car dealership employee for a recent rescue.
A post on Facebook from the sheriff’s office says on May 11th just before 2 pm, Deputy Matt Eberhardt was wrapping up his patrol in the city of Chilton when he noticed a mother duck frantically darting in and out of the roadway.
When he stopped, he heard the faint sound of chirping coming from inside a storm sewer and saw a group of ducklings huddled in the corner of two sewer grates.
Eberhardt removed the sewer grate and before getting to work, Vande Hey Brantmeier Automotive Group employee Cale Johnson came over to help by getting in the sewer and was able to get each of the ducklings out one by one.
Chilton Police also came on the scene to make sure the mother duck was staying safe while her ducklings were reunited with her.
Sheriff’s deputies thanked Eberhardt, Johnson, and Chilton Police for their quick thinking and compassionate teamwork to rescue the ducklings.
