It was a good day for Valders High School at the WPS Solar Olympics yesterday (May 8th).
Not only did their team earn top honors, but they also won three events at the UW-Oshkosh campus, including the Solar Advertising Campaign, Solar Car Design, and Solar Essay.
They were also one of the winners in the Solar Art Challenge. Behind Valders in second place were Pembine and Wausau West High Schools, which tied for second, and Marinette High School, which placed fourth.
A couple of other area schools won some competitions, including Mishicot High School winning in the Solar Photography category and Chilton winning the T-Shirt Design contest.
150 students from 12 high schools competed in yesterday’s activities to test their science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills to create devices powered by the sun or inspired by solar energy.
WPS Spokesman Matt Cullen says the event started in 1997 with three schools but has since helped thousands of students learn more about the importance of solar.
