A man is facing charges after allegedly spitting at and threatening officers over the weekend.
A Manitowoc Police Officer reported seeing a vehicle swerving in the downtown area just after midnight Sunday morning and conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of South 10th Street.
The officer noted the smell of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle and numerous indicators that the 49-year-old man was under the influence.
The man refused to take a field sobriety test and was uncooperative with the officer several times.
While being read his rights, the man allegedly shouted expletives at the officer and spit at him.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he reportedly threatened to kill the officer as he filled out paperwork.
A spit mask was placed over the man’s mouth, which he was able to remove and again attempted to spit at the officer.
He was eventually taken to the Manitowoc County Jail on his 7th OWI, along with one count of Threats to Law Enforcement, and two counts each of Discharging Bodily Flud at Law Enforcement and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
