Nine area track and field teams converged in Brillion last week Friday for the 8th Annual “Sting Cancer” Invitational.
On the girls side, Chilton brought home the win, scoring 23.75 points better than runner up St. Marty Catholic. Shiocton finished 3rd, followed by Manitowoc Lutheran, the host Lions, Kiel, Roncalli, Wrightstown, and Mishicot.
The Tigers were led by Samantha Koehler, who earned top finishes in the 100 hurdles and the 4×100 relay alongside Amber Anhalt, Adeline Bodinger, and Taylor Byrge, while teammate Maddie Mertz won the 200 hurdles.
Brillion got first-place finishes from Sophia Galof in the pole vault and Addie Wenzel in the long jump, while Kiel was led by Addison Vogel’s win in the 400-meter dash and Maddison McDole’s win in the High Jump.
Kiel finished on top of the boys’ rankings, 29 points better than Brillion. Chilton ended up 3rd, followed by Shiocton, Manitowoc Lutheran, St. Mary Catholic, Mishicot, Wrightstown, and Roncalli.
Raiders to earn gold medals were Harrison Zorn in the 100-meter dash, Ethan Vander Meer in the 1600-meter run, Sam Keuler in the 3200, and Austin Resterer in the police vault.
Brillion’s top runners were the 4×100 relay team of Brennen Kleist, Heath Cousin, Jacob Lehman, and Ben Scharrer and the 4×400 team of Jacob Lehman, Lucas Mathes, Ian Calaway, and Cousin.
Mathes also won the triple jump, while William VanderZander claimed the high jump, and Logan Shmidt had the longest throw in the shot put.
Lancers to earn wins included Trenton Schuettpelz in the 110 hurdles, Jacob Kanzenbach in the 400-meter dash, and the 4×800 relay team of Kanzenbach, Josephy Ungemach, Ryder Vogt, and Braden Revak.
The lone Mishicot athlete to finish on top was Anthony Butler, who won the 300 hurdles.
