Despite a significant quarter-billion-dollar tax hike, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is proceeding with plans to eliminate 288 staff positions.
While some roles are currently vacant, MPS asserts that affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for alternative positions within the district.
The tax increase advocated to prevent job losses and program cuts, proved insufficient due to escalating inflation and operational expenses, necessitating difficult decisions in the new school budget.
