Students in Brown County have been circulating whooping cough.
Brown County Public Health states that they are “aware” of the cases, but did not specify where they were, or how many cases have been reported.
Whooping cough is caused by a bacteria that is easily spread from person to person.
Generally, patients with whooping cough, medically known as pertussis, can display symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, fever, and a cough that starts mild but advances into violent, uncontrollable fits that make it hard to breathe.
If you believe you may have been in contact with someone that has whopping cough, you are encouraged to visit your primary care doctor or a clinic.
