An eastern Wisconsin Congressman wishes Congress could work on something else before funding the War in Ukraine.
Congressman Glenn Grothman, Manitowoc County’s representative in Washington, voted against approving the funding during a weekend vote.
He says he’s disappointed that aid being sent to Ukraine took priority over the fight to get a handle on the US-Mexico border issue.
He continues saying he feels Republicans should have negotiated harder over the spending bills passed last month to secure significant policy changes at the border, but they did not fight this time.
That, to him, means a new President will have to come in and fix the border crisis to stop the flow of illegal immigrants crossing the border.
While he didn’t show his support for the Ukranian funding, he says he was happy to vote for Israel as they try to fight back against the extremist group Hamas.
While some other Wisconsin Republican Congressmen like Bryan Steil, Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Tiffany, and Derek Van Orden voted against the funding, Congressman Mike Gallager voted yes.
Democrats Mark Pocan and Gwen Moore also voted in favor of the funding.
Pocan calls the bill much needed so Ukraine can fight back, regain its territory, and end this war without putting American boots on the ground.
