
A standoff in Appleton ended with a man in custody.
The Appleton Police Department first reported a heavy police presence in the 1200 block of East Northland Avenue at around 1:30 p.m.
Officers were responding to a disturbance where a man was armed with a gun and was said to be going through a mental health crisis.
The nearby residences were evacuated, and a perimeter was established.
SWAT was called in as the man continued to make threatening comments, but crisis negotiators were able to talk him down.
The man exited the home and was taken to a local hospital for further care.
It is not clear what charges will be filed against the man.
The department issued a thank you for the “understanding and support shown by the community and our law enforcement partners as we navigated safely through this incident.”
