Two new hotels will be coming to Manitowoc by the end of the decade.
The city council voted unanimously last night to approve a term sheet between them and Odessey Hotels, which would build a Hampton and Marriot brand hotel near the AMC Movie theater property along I-43.
Finance Committee Chairman Jim Brey calls the potential hotels great for the city.
“It’s not just for the city but for the area in general,” he explained. “It’s going to be a great place to have more hotels and more competition as well.”
He also says the hotel group did its homework before wanting to move into the city.
“They don’t just come and say we’re going to build this for the sake of it. They did an investigation,” he states. “They look at potentially going to happen there, what they can make it. And the bottom line is, and I respect it, is they want to profit, and we’re all for that.”
The Hampton would have 84 rooms, according to the development description, and would also include a restaurant.
The Marriot would have 76-78 rooms.
The Hampton and restaurant site preparation would begin later this year, and the hotel could be finished being built by 2025 with full operation by 2026.
The Mariott would start being built in 2028, finished by 2029, and should be operational by 2030. All three projects would be worth about $16 million.
