
State investigators have been called to look into an officer-involved shooting in Grand Chute.
WBAY TV reports that there was a heavy police presence on West Prospect Avenue between South Bluemound and Weatherstone Drives at around 7:00 Friday evening.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice has confirmed that Outagamie County Sheriff’s Deputies had responded to a crash where they encountered a man with a knife.
The deputies tried to use less-than-lethal tactics to subdue the man, including a tazer, but those tactics failed, leading to a deputy firing his weapon at the man.
The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
As per department policy, the deputies were placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
All deputies involved were said to be wearing body cameras at the time of the incident, and the footage has been handed over to the Department of Criminal Investigation.
The names of those involved have not yet been released.
