A 5th-grade student in Sheboygan is among nine students from around the state to earn a top three finish in the Department of Natural Resources’ 2024 Keep Wildlife Wild Poster Contest.
Belle Manula’s drawing of a bird feeding her chicks in a nest earned first place among all entrants in her grade, while Delaney Darton of Eagle River earned first place in the 4th-grade division, and Paige Rife of Misonee won the 6th-grade competition.
The theme of this year’s contest was “Safe in Their Home,” a phrase prominently featured in Belle’s drawing.
All of the winners’ drawings can be seen on the DNR Website.
The DNR’s Keep Wildlife Wild initiative provides information about wildlife species’ natural behaviors, tips on how to tell if a wild animal is truly orphaned, and what to do if you find a wild animal in need of assistance.
Next year’s poster contest will begin in the late fall/early winter.
