A Manitowoc Police report gives details as to why a large police presence was seen downtown early Saturday morning.
Police say they were called to the Manitowoc Place Apartments for a caller yelling that someone was going to kill them and that there were children inside the residence.
It was also reported that numerous gunshots were fired through doors and windows. When police arrived and entered the building, they heard the 38-year-old suspect yelling profanities and threatening to shoot anyone who came up to get him.
Police tried to use a taser to stop the man when he was found at the top of the stairs, but it didn’t work.
The suspect eventually retreated to his apartment, and the police followed him up.
Officers formed a perimeter around the apartment complex and held their positions until the Manitowoc County Swat Team arrived.
The victim was eventually removed from the apartment uninjured and was taken to the hospital.
It was determined that no shots were fired at any door or window, but 10-15 gunshots were fired somewhere.
The Swat Team used different tactics to get the suspect out and eventually had to release K9 Riley to get the suspect to cooperate.
The suspect will be charged with disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, obstructing an officer, and threats to law enforcement.
