The trial for the Town Supervisor of Grand Chute has begun.
According to WBAY TV, Ron Wolff was in court Wednesday as he was accused of having a private interest in a public contract.
Wolff owns Lakeshore Cleaners, a landscaping business, which was paid more than $26,000 for the seeding of Champion Pond after winning the bid over other landscapers.
The lawyers on both sides will try to prove whether or not Wolff knew it was a conflict of interest to have his business bid on projects for the town.
Town employees have also raised concerns about the amount Lakeshore Cleaners was paid, as it well exceeded the $15,000 limit.
The defense, however, says that due to the nature of the project, Wolff’s business was one of the few that could do it properly.
If convicted, Wolff could spend up to three and a half years in prison and could be fined up to $10,000.
