Efforts to conserve the deer population in northern Wisconsin received a legislative boost as the State Assembly greenlit a four-year pause on antlerless deer hunting in the Northern Forest Zone.
Advocates argue that such measures are necessary to facilitate the growth of the deer population, especially in light of a 15 percent decline observed in last fall’s doe hunt.
Hunters have reported dwindling deer numbers over recent years, underscoring the urgency of the plan.
The proposal now awaits consideration in the Wisconsin Senate.
