Wisconsin’s Republican lawmakers have given their approval to the political maps proposed by Democratic Governor Evers, though the governor’s endorsement of the maps remains uncertain.
The maps, endorsed by both the State Assembly and State Senate, potentially tilt legislative control towards Democrats for the first time in over a decade.
Despite reservations expressed by some Republicans, including Senator Duey Stroebel, who described the approval as being under duress, the maps were passed to forestall potentially less favorable alternatives from the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Governor Evers indicated a willingness to sign the maps without alterations if approved by lawmakers.
