Manitowoc Police were involved in a chase through several residential neighborhoods over the weekend.
An incident report states that an officer was on patrol just after midnight Saturday (February 4th) when they saw a vehicle run through a red light at the intersection of South 21st and Washington Streets.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the 26-year-old male driver.
The officer noted that the driver would not identify himself and that he appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
After about four minutes of conversation, the man suddenly put his car in drive and sped off.
The officer initially took chase, but with the man driving at speeds of around 60 miles per hour in residential neighborhoods, the officer was ordered to terminate the chase.
The man was later identified through previous contacts, and about half an hour later, the car was seen parked in a driveway in the 1700 block of Michigan Avenue.
The man was seen in the basement of the residence opening a bag believed to contain a controlled substance.
When he exited the residence, he was taken into custody on charges of Fleeing or Eluding an Officer, Obstructing an Officer, and one count each of Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
