Governor Tony Evers Official Portrait
Governor Tony Evers has followed expectations by vetoing political maps that he played a significant role in drafting.
Evers recently rejected legislative maps, which constituted 99 percent of the ones he initially drew and submitted to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
The maps were previously approved by Republican lawmakers the previous week.
The governor cited his veto as a response to a few changes made by Republicans, particularly adjustments that returned sitting lawmakers to their original districts.
Evers emphasized his commitment to fair maps, devoid of partisan affiliations.
Consequently, the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s experts are likely to have the ultimate say in determining the candidates that voters will encounter on their ballots in the upcoming fall election.
