white-tailed deer in fall field in rutt
Chronic Wasting Disease has been detected in Eastern Wisconsin.
The disease, which is not fatal to humans, was found in a five-year-old buck in Sheboygan County.
The area where the deer was found has been quarantined, where it will remain while DATCP and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) veterinarians and staff conduct the epidemiological investigation.
CWD attacks the brains of deer, elk, and moose and completely takes over the motor functions of the animal.
DATCP regulates deer farms for registration, recordkeeping, disease testing, movement, and permit requirements in an attempt to keep the disease at bay.
You can learn more about CWD by visiting theĀ DATCP website.
