Wisconsin Governor Evers and Health Services Secretary Kirsten Johnson attempted to link the closure of two hospitals in western Wisconsin to the absence of Medicaid expansion in the state.
During their visit to Eau Claire, they expressed concern that the decision by HSHS and Prevea to close hospitals and clinics in the Chippewa Valley limits patient choices.
While HSHS and Prevea attributed the closures to inflation, workforce challenges, the pandemic, and broader industry trends, Governor Evers argued for Medicaid expansion, asserting that it would provide additional funds by covering more single, childless men.
