A barn fire in Fond du Lac County was a little less catastrophic thanks to the kindness of some snowmobilers.
A fire was reported in a barn at W4027 Swallow Lane in the Township of Ashford at around 3:15 Thursday evening.
Two area fire departments responded, along with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, and found the barn to be fully engulfed upon their arrival.
Additional fire departments were called in to assist due to the size and severity of the fire.
All 72 cattle that were in the barn were evacuated, thanks to the help of some passing snowmobilers who also helped move fire crews from the roadway to the scene due to the icy conditions.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was believed to be a faulty block heater located on a skid steer in the barn, and it is not considered suspicious.
