A woman is dead, and four people were injured in a New Year’s Eve crash in Fond du Lac County.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies report that the incident occurred on Highway 45 near Sandy Road in the Town of Auburn.
A vehicle, being driven by a 19-year-old Hartford woman, was traveling south when it entered the west ditch, struck a culvert, and overturned, ejecting the driver and four of the five passengers.
The driver was then hit by an oncoming vehicle and drug three miles away.
She was pronounced dead at the scene while a 17-year-old boy from West Bend, a 17-year-old boy from Milwaukee, and a 16-year-old girl from Theresa were also thrown from the vehicle and taken to area hospitals for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries.
Their current status is unknown.
Additionally, a 21-year-old individual from Iron Ridge was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was the only individual not thrown from the vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing, but alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
