After three impressive wins in a row, the Green Bay Packers are now on a two-game skid, and the defense hasn’t looked overly impressive.
Many have called for D-Coordinator Joe Berry to be fired, while Coach Matt LaFleur called the issues, specifically against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, “communication issues” on the field.
We asked former Packer O-Lineman Evan Smith his take on the situation.
“I think right now what you are seeing is frustration from players because maybe they feel like they aren’t in the right spots,” he speculated. “Or maybe it is a player problem, and they are just not doing It the way they are coaching it.”
Also, this week, Linebacker De’Vondre Campbell went to social media to say he is not “playing through injuries anymore” and missed practice.
Smith told us, he understands where Campbell is coming from.
“He’s coming at the point in his career where he doesn’t have as many shots left,” Smith explained. “You only get so many seasons to make it happen, and some guys don’t even get to the playoffs.”
Smith said that social media is a blessing and a curse for people in such a big spotlight.
“Sometimes you kinda get blinded by rage,” he said. “Then you wake up the next day and think ‘Maybe I should have kept that one to myself,’ or let that frustration out in a different setting.”
The Packers will be in Carolina taking on the Packers on Christmas Eve.
