A seat on the Manitowoc County board that has been filled by the same man since 1996 will have a new representative.
Jim Brey, who serves as the 4th District Representative on the County Board and as the 4th District Alderman for the City of Manitowoc, has announced he is not seeking reelection for his County Board seat.
During his 27 years on the board, Brey has served as the County Board Chairman twice and the Finance Committee Chairman several times.
He is currently the Chairman of the Human Services Board.
Brey said of his decision, “I have decided that it was time to stand back a little; time to observe the board from the outside. I have wholeheartedly enjoyed serving the residents of the Fourth District on both the Common Council and County Board.”
Brey will, however, seek reelection for his Aldermanic seat next year, a seat he has held without a break since 1992.
He also noted that “Maybe a return in the future to an elected position for Manitowoc County might be in the cards,” harkening to the old phrase “never say never.”
