A Door County Community is getting a major state grant to help support the development of their waterfront.
The City of Sturgeon Bay was awarded a $250,000 Community Development Investment grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation for the creation of the Sturgeon Bay Plaza.
This community space will be located along the waterfront in downtown Sturgeon Bay, which has gone unused for the past 20 years.
Martin Olejniczak, the City of Sturgeon Bay’s Community Development Director, called the project well overdue, noting, “The space has been underused for a long time, and this new plaza will bring more visitors, and even future residents, to the community.”
By creating public and retail space in the area, the Sturgeon Bay Plaza aims to bring visitors to surrounding businesses and landmarks, such as the Door County Granary.
