Wisconsin unions, buoyed by the newly constituted liberal majority on the Supreme Court, are urging the court to invalidate Act 10.
A coalition of public sector unions, including the state’s teachers union, filed a petition yesterday, seeking to overturn the 2011 state law that restricted the bargaining capabilities of teachers unions.
The contested law confined teachers’ unions to negotiating salary raises, capped at the inflation rate.
The union’s legal challenge argues that Act 10 created a dichotomy among public employees, violating the state’s equal protection clause.
In response, Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos warned that nullifying Act 10 would financially strain local schools statewide.
