An Eastern Wisconsin legislator is looking to help veterans with his latest bill.
The measure, introduced by Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere, aims to reduce the eligibility age to access educational benefits under the Wisconsin GI Bill.
Jacque tells Seehafer News that under the Wisconsin GI Bill, a child of an eligible service-connected disabled veteran can generally receive 128 credits or eight semesters of tuition remission at University of Wisconsin System institutions or state technical colleges.
However, children of veterans are ineligible under state law to access educational benefits under the Wisconsin GI Bill until they reach the age of 17.
Jacque’s bill would lower that age to 15, which he said would “more fully support the families of those veterans.”
