The Green Bay Police Department is reminding residents of the dangers of driving drunk. Officers in Green Bay have arrested 364 people so far this year for OWI, as of Monday.
One incident in particular really shined a light on the dangers of driving impaired, as an officer had their foot run over by an individual who was driving drunk.
It occurred on November 19th in the 700 block of Bodart Street. It is reported that an officer was speaking with a resident when the pickup truck ran over his foot and nearly hit the bystander.
The driver was quickly detained on charges of OWI-Causing Injury, Hit and Run Causing Injury, and Possession of Cocaine.
The officer is said to be okay, but a still from the officer’s body camera shows that the truck came within a foot or two of directly hitting both the officer and the civilian.
In a public statement, the Department reminded residents “If you ever find yourself in a situation, where you should not drive, please find a safe ride home.”
