
Demonstrators gathered outside the Wisconsin Department of Corrections’ headquarters in Madison, protesting against lockdowns in state-run prisons.
The rally follows Governor Evers’ announcement of “sweeping measures” to address safety concerns at prisons, prompted by a federal lawsuit citing poor living conditions at the Waupun and Green Bay Correctional Institutions.
Village of Allouez President Jim Rafter has called the GBCI a “powder keg” and claimed that the 125-year-old facility “poses a considerable safety threat to our community.”
